Walk 3 Sowing the seeds

A circular walk out towards Hailes where we stop for a cup of tea and a brief talk before a tour of some seed trials. The grass seed breeder offers one of the world’s largest research and breeding programmes for both turf and forage.  We have a guided walk around the trial sites and learn more about the research which lay behind these trial beds and their adaptation to different climatic and environmental conditions. The different grasses are used from premier football grounds to golf courses to forage for agriculture.

From here we walk on through tranquil Hailes stopping briefly to see the medieval wall paintings in the church before going on to Hayles Fruit Farm. We then set off through their orchards to return to Winchcombe. Bring a picnic lunch.

The Walking Festival is now closed for online bookings. We are making the final preparations for the festival.
